Product Description

Agave americana CENTURY PLANT Pup

Family: Agavaceae, Agave Family
Perennial
Blooms in: Late Spring, Early Summer
Common Names: Century Plant, Maguey, American Aloe

Here is a Healthy century plant offspring sprouted from the mother plant in the picture. This is a beautiful easy to grow plant and hardy enough to plant outdoors in the Southern US and is easily container grown anywhere. The l
eaves are in a basal rosette, up to 5' long, nearly 10" wide, gray, curved or reflexed at tip, margin toothed; tall; flowers pale yellow, to 3 5/8"long, perianth segments erect, to 1 1/4" long. Pollination believed to be effected by bats or moths. These plants get to be quite large. All of my babies have a good start! They require a very well-drained soil and a sunny position. A monocarpic species, the plant lives for a number of years without flowering but the rosette dies once it does flower. However, it normally produces plenty of suckers during its life and these take about 10 - 15 years in a warm climate, considerably longer in colder ones, before flowering. They are a great looking plant and a great conversation piece. When it does bloom, it is unbelievable. It can shoot a stalk up to 10 times the height of its base where it produces beautiful blooms on top ! I just recently got to watch one of my neighbors bloom and it was INCREDIBLE! Plant comes bare root.

Small Plant Pup Only $2.50
